Sparrow
Featured Restaurant
Sparrow Highgate Sparrow nested on William Street in 1993, and is still thriving, with numerous awards tucked under its wing and hardly a table to be had on Friday and Saturday evenings. It's the rare combination of cheap, quality food and cheerful service that keeps this humble little Indonesian eatery flying high. Owner and front man Wei Chin offers warm Indonesian hospitality in quantities as generous as the dishes his wife Noni Lee creates. Cooking in the traditional home-style of her homeland, Noni's speciality is ikan balado (fish fillet in a red capsicum and chilli sauce), but her Balinese-style chicken in thick curry sauce and beef rending prove just as popular with Sparrow's flock of regulars. None of the dishes exceed the $9 mark, with many dishes costing less than $5. It's cash only too, so give the credit card a night off and just take along a few notes, together with a bottle of your preferred plonk, as there's no corkage charge either. Although there is a good selection of non-alcoholic liquid refreshment to wash it all down with, most notably the pleasantly sweet and mildly flavoured ice cendol, traditionally known as the 'Indonesian cappuccino'. more

Dining Hotspot: Kyneton's the New Black
Previously a sleepy country town, Kyneton, in Victoria's beautiful Macedon Ranges, is fast becoming a hot spot for Melburnians and city-slickers from further afield looking for a relaxed, indulgent weekend away. Foodies have begun to take pilgrimages here as a rite of passage, and the town is abuzz with some of the best new restaurants to open in Victoria in recent years. In fact, it boasts four eateries listed in the Age Good Food Guide, two of which have received a coveted Chef's Hat and are in the same street, no less.

Kids in the Kitchen

Kids in the Kitchen Kids. They're getting smarter, better and faster than us every day. With a certain TV show proving they're keener to get into the kitchen than we realised, and are actually pretty good with sharp knives (who knew?) a slew of cooking classes geared towards the pre-tweens has popped up, and will have them running rings around us in the kitchen in no time.

The Age Good Food Guide Awards 2011: The Newcomers The night of nights for many a food-loving Victorian (well ok, for us), The Age Good Food Guide awards night, has been and gone for another year, leaving us to sort through the quagmire of newly hatted, re-hatted and de-hatted eateries that will dictate our dining habits for the next year or so. Among the usual suspects were some newcomers to the guide and to the state s restaurant scene, and we ve gathered together a few of the new additions and top-performers for you to sink your teeth into.

Lord Lunchabit S.C.'s East Coast Eateries - The Blue Ribbands This list comprises my "approved eateries" in the City of Melbourne or more precisely, as I term it, "Melbino". As time has gone on I have been implored to include my observations on feeding stations in Sydney and in FNQ to which I have now acceded. Brisvegas - I have now done you too.
